A Right Relationship

Alrighty! So two weeks ago we left off with the concept of sin and what that means for humans. How it isn’t just the bad that we do but that it is the bad that we are. I know that’s kinda hard to hear because we think to ourselves “I’m not bad. In fact, I do good things all the time!” Well, buddy, I’m sorry to tell you but it’s just not good enough to do good things to get you back into a right relationship with God.

So how exactly do we achieve this right relationship? Well, we get that through Jesus Christ. Jesus was this guy who walked around on the earth about two thousand years ago. What makes Jesus so special is that he was sinless. 1 Peter 2:22 says “He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth.” How was Jesus sinless? Well, he was sinless because he was fully God and fully human. He was God in a human form and God does not sin. Before Adam and Eve had sinned back in the garden of Eden, God had a plan to send Jesus to pay for our sins because we couldn’t because everyone who came after Adam and Eve is sinful. There is no way that we could satisfy God’s wrath for sin. Romans 6:23 says “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” So there is a payment that needs to happen for us to experience the right relationship with God but because we have sinned we can’t pay for it and what we receive for our sin is death. But God wanted a relationship with the people he created because he loves us. That’s why he sent Jesus to die on a cross for our sins. That’s a death we could not die. To pay for our sins, we would have to be sinless and we are not so we can not pay. 1 John 2:2 says “He is the propitiation (payment) for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.”

So we see God’s love in this. We see that at first, it was pretty bad. We seemed to have been left up the creek without a paddle but because God intervened in our lives we have been invited into this relationship with him that without Jesus we could never have experienced. Next week we’ll look at God’s holiness and why He’s so different from us which will be really fun!

  1. Great job explaining the gospel! It's super important to note that nothing we can do will ever take away the sin in this world, only through Jesus does true salvation come. Can’t wait to read next week on God’s holiness!
